There are many factors to consider when you’re planning on taking your boat out for a spin. The type of waterway and whether it’s high tide or low season all play into how best we can enjoy our time with them; but let’s not forget about what happens after the sun has set: logistics! Planning ahead will ensure that nothing gets in between your errands.
1. Distribute the Weight Accordingly
When you’re loading the boat onto whatever trailer it will be towed on, make sure that its weight is evenly distributed throughout. This means from both horizontal and vertical axes as well as side-to—side or lengthwise distribution of goods inside your vessel; anything can throw off balance including fuel quantities so stay vigilant.
2. Maintain a Flat Axis
When towing a boat with an open trailer, you’ll need some extra weight in order for the hitch of both vehicles (towing vehicle and its towed) not be too light. The general rule is that 10 percent more than what’s on your scales should go onto either side or front end when loaded up – this includes anything from fuel tanks down through tires so make sure they’re fully inflated before pushing start.
3. Secure the Boat Tightly
To make sure your boat is securely attached to the trailer, secure it with ratchet straps. The bow eye of any vehicle needs an equally strong hold so be careful not get too far away from these when securing them in place.
4. Consider the Weight When Breaking
Your vehicle will require additional time to stop completely, so drive slow and break somewhat in advance of when you would instinctively do it normally. Never make sudden starts or stops that can throw off the stability of your trailer while driving downhill; instead use low gear for extra traction on slopes with steep grades.
5. Always Bring Tools With You
Never be caught without your gear. Make sure to pack a spare tire for the trailer, as well as lug wrench and tire gauge so that you can replace any flats on-the spot! Grease guns are also great tools if there’s extra lubrication needed while traveling through town or out in nature – just don’t forget about it before starting off again because once those things run low…it could become quite impossible. A few things may seem unnecessary but they’ll surely come into play at some point during travel time such as bringing along all necessary equipment including new tires should anything happen beforehand; having more than 1 set of keys makes life easier.
6. Always Consider Safety
Inspect your trailer before you go, just like with any other vehicle. Make sure the lights work and that everything looks right- even during day time! Walk around completely to ensure there are no loose straps attached anywhere on it; this will help guarantee maximum safety while traveling at slower speeds over long distances (although don’t worry too much if some things take longer than others).
